In 2007, New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services embarked on an initiative to address those young people who are at risk of out-of-home placement due to their involvement with the juvenile justice system.
Little Flower was awarded a contract to serve Brooklyn youth and their families. As a provider of services to these youth and families, Little Flower utilizes Multisystemic Therapy (MST).
What is MST?
MST is a community based and intensive treatment used with families of youth who have been arrested and referred to the program through Family Court. MST focusses on the systems within a youth’s environment to impact the challenging behaviors. MST therapists work intensely with families served, and work to help parents and caregivers better manage their youth’s behavior.
MST is an evidence-based model and has been shown to be effective in reducing recidivism and improving outcomes for youth and families in various countries around the world, when implemented with fidelity. The MST team is supported by a trained MST consultant through training and regular consultation.
